The data covers the 51 states of the United States
in addition to the U.S.-administered territories of Puerto Rico
and the Virgin Islands.
Data on U.S. imports are not directly comparable
to those on U.S. exports. The U.S. Census Bureau classifies
imports by customs district (port of entry) and does not classify
them by state total. Cargo, however, may land in a customs district
in one state to be re-shipped to another state. Moreover, while
data on exports is classified according to industry (two digits),
data on imports is classified according to commodity groupings
(four digits).
Exports and imports are sorted in descending order
in terms of values for the first half of 1999 (1999Q2). For
each state, the boxes show its rank relative to other states,
in terms of exports to and imports from Egypt (by customs district)
during the 1999Q2 period.
Following each state's trade data are two lists
of companies. The first is for U.S. suppliers that operated
under the USAID Private Sector Commodity Import Program (PRCIP)
in 1999, and the second is for contractors that worked with
USAID projects in 1999.
