Solid Waste Management in Egypt
Successful solid waste management is a vital issue
in the context of Egypts sustainable development strategy
and has an impact on all sectors of the economy. This study attempts
to acquaint the business community with the status of solid waste
management in Egypt, shedding light on the associated legal framework,
geographical distribution, current treatment and disposal methods,
and public, NGO and donor participation in the sector. It gives
an overview of the sector and describes representative projects
with focus on recent national and governorate-level experiences.
To accelerate performance, the solid waste
management sector is in need of more private sector enthusiasm and
commitment. The lack of national private sector experience, however,
calls for public-private partnerships as well as foreign companies
support. This is an opportunity for Egyptian and U.S. firms looking
for prospects to do business.
