Egypt & the U.S. -- a solid and lasting partnership"

For the past 20 years, AmCham Egypt has been sending a DoorKnock delegation to Washington, DC each year to meet with senators, congressional representatives and administration officials, as well as representatives of financial institutions, think tanks and the US media. The missions are meant to provide a picture of the business environment in Egypt and to enhance the strategic relationship between the two countries.

The main emphasis of DoorKnock 2002, entitled “Egypt: The Strategic Partner,” was the need for regional peace as a prerequisite for successful trade and commerce. The delegation highlighted Egypt’s official support for the US-led war against terrorism and pointed out that support for the US is strongest within the private-sector business community. In addition, however, concerns were raised about US policy in the region, particularly with regard to the situation in the Palestinian territories.

Given the negative impact of September 11 and subsequent events on Egypt’s economy, the delegation further argued that USAID is more important than ever before in order to maintain stability and prepare the country for the eventual transition from aid to trade.

AmCham Egypt’s DoorKnock 2002 delegation engaged in meetings in Washington, DC from April 29 to May 3.
