Health & Pharmaceuticals Committee

The committee organized a core group in 2001 to address issues of specific concern to the pharmaceutical sector. Thus far, the group has concentrated on the following areas:

• Raising quality standards to international levels; encouraging the development of know-how and the transfer of product quality testing to Egypt
  
  
• Cooperation to strengthen research & development capabilities; encouraging local companies to invest in R&D through incentives or strategic alliances with multinational corporations
  
  
• Improving understanding of intellectual property rights (IPR) in the Egyptian market; communicate implications and methods of implementation throughout the industry and to the public
  
  
• Initiate dialogue between the US and Egyptian regulatory authorities; enhance the regulatory and legal framework based on the application of clear, transparent guidelines
