The American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt (AmCham Egypt) was established in 1982 as the 44th American Chamber of Commerce to be established abroad and the first in the Middle East (AmCham History). Today it is one of the largest and most active overseas affiliates of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and has successfully helped in enhancing economic and investment ties between the United States and Egypt.
AmCham's mission is to promote trade and investment between Egypt and the United States. In order to achieve its mission, AmCham Egypt works on promoting the development of commerce and investment between the United States and Egypt through creating a friendlier business environment, facilitating communication between businessmen; providing a network for sharing business information about Egypt and addressing common problems.

No, AmCham is not affiliated to the U.S. Embassy, however AmCham has always maintained close relations with the U.S. Embassy, and both the U.S. Ambassador to Egypt and the U.S. Commercial Counselor are considered honorary members of AmCham.
Where does AmCham get its funding from?
AmCham is a non-profit, membership organization that receives its funding from membership dues and service provisions. USAID had supported two AmCham projects from 1996 till 2004. AmCham's Trade-Related Assistance Center (TRAC) is an ongoing USAID funded project.
In 2007, and for the first time in AmCham's history, AmCham's revenue from services, accounted for more than 50% of AmCham's total earnings, surpassing the revenue from membership dues, making membership services the primary source of funding.

Yes, AmCham members may request an official letter to be submitted to the U.S. Embassy stating that they are members, in an effort to facilitate the application process. This is usually done on a case by case basis. However it is ultimately the decision of the U.S. Embassy in Egypt, whether a visa would be issued.

AmCham's Corporate Social Responsibility Committee represents a forum where raising awareness and promoting constructive dialogue on CSR issues takes place. The AmCham Egypt Foundation is AmCham's charity arm, through which it carries out all its corporate social responsibility initiatives. AmCham Foundation had supported a number of national initiatives including raising funds to maintain drug-prevention campaigns, purchase kidney-dialysis equipment for the Kasr Al Aini Hospitals, sponsoring orphans, combating the prevalence of street children, as well as to support the establishment of blood-transfusion centers for children.
