Maritime (Alexandria) Committee

Our goal is to be a key member to AmCham providing information and support to the members and other interested parties on the progress and process of privatizing the maritime transports of Egypt. The new committee will make and maintain key contacts within the maritime transport sector and stakeholders to the benefit of the AmCham membership.

  • View employees and future employees as stakeholders in the privatization process.
  • Review how regulations have been changed to smooth out the privatization process, what investors will need to be successful and the areas that still require improvement
  • Enhance AmChams' visibility and reputation within the maritime transport sector
  • Create a network of key personnel within the industry for AmCham members
  • Lobby Government Representatives towards favorable changes in regulations
  • Liaison with key training institutions to increase awareness of the education needs of the industry

  • Connect with key companies in maritime transport sector to open dialogue about the employee challenges they face
  • Attend and possibly present at the annual Port Training Institute Conference as part of a Protocol between the AmCham and the Port Training Institute. This would be AmCham's venue to have a voice to increase the level of education for graduates so they are able to cope with the requirements and standards of the market. This will ensure the complete utilization of the Egyptian workforce.
  • Keep our current contacts from past committees and expand them to create a comprehensive network.
  • Collate the information required to compete for the opportunity to manage a state owned entity.
  • Create a profile of the remaining state managed maritime transport locations that may come up for privatization.
  • Continue to enhance the visibility of the AmCham as a place to connect and receive information on maritime transport operations and needs.
  • Hold 2 Seminars between January and June 2006

  •   a) One dealing with employer/employee issues and education.
      b) One dealing with the government's new trend to appoint the private sector/foreign companies to manage state-owned entities through concession agreements.
