Omar A. Mohanna
AmCham President and Chairman
Suez Cement Group of Companies

Omar Mohanna is chairman of Suez Cement Group of Companies, the leading cement producer in Egypt. He is also chairman of the Alexandria Tire Company, Egypt’s largest tire producer and subsidiary of Pirelli. He has served on the board of directors of diverse companies, and is currently board member of ACE Insurance Co., Egypt, an affiliate of the U.S. multinational ACE.

Mr. Mohanna’s over 25 years of local and international commercial and investment banking culminated in the position of vice chairman and managing director of Egypt Arab African Bank (EAAB). He subsequently held the position of managing director of Accor Hotels Group in Egypt.

As an economist, and through active participation in a number of business organizations and ministerial bodies, Mr. Mohanna has supported the growth of Egypt’s private sector, bringing his knowledge and expertise to bear at the policy level and promoting increased trade and investment.

Mr. Mohanna is president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt and honorary chairman of the Egyptian Insurance Brokers’ Association. He is also a member of the U.S.-Egypt Business Council, Egyptian Italian Business Council, Foreign Relations and Industry Leaders committees of the Federation of Egyptian Industries, Club d’Affaires Franco Egyptien, Egyptian Businessmen Association and Egypt’s International Economic Forum. He is a member of the General Assembly of the Holding Company for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport Projects, Ministry of Transport; the board of trustees of the Egyptian Institute of Directors, Ministry of Investment; and board of directors of the Industrial Training Council, Ministry of Trade and Industry. In addition, he is vice chairman of the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES).

At the broader community level, Mr. Mohanna is a board member of the New Civic Forum and the Association for the Protection of the Environment, as well as a member of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs.

Anis A. Aclimandos
AmCham Executive Vice President and President
TransCentury Associates

Anis Aclimandos is the president of TransCentury Associates, which manages development projects worldwide. He is also president of Woodies, a subsidiary of TCA, which is the import agent for Eastman- Kodak.

Mr. Aclimandos joined the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt in 1983. He was elected to the board of governors in 1987 and re-elected in 1988 and 2007. He has served as chair of AmCham’s Customs, Investment & Trade and International Donor Programs committees, and as vice president, membership from 2001 to 2005.

A certified accountant, Mr. Aclimandos earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in accounting from Cairo University and holds Egyptian and U.S. certification in financial management and analysis.

Adel Danish
AmCham Vice President Membership; and Chairman and CEO,
Xceed Contact Center

Adel Danish is the chairman and CEO of Xceed, a Telecom Egypt subsidiary established in 2001 to act as its information technology arm. Dr.Danish began his career as a researcher at the IBM Scientific Center in Paris, France, going on to hold several technical and marketing positions within IBM. He founded StandardData S.A. in France in 1978, and is the founder and co-founder of several other companies in the IT field in Egypt, France and the United States.

Dr. Danish was appointed a member of the board of directors of Telecom Egypt in June 2000, served on the board of directors of the Egyptian High Tech Association from 1998 to 1999, and has been a member of the board of trustees of the French University in Egypt since 1998. He has been a member of AmCham Egypt since 1990, and established its Information Technology Committee, which he chaired for two terms. He also served as president of the Club d’Affaires Franco- Egyptien in 1996 and 1997, and serves as a board member of the U.S.- Egypt Business Council.

At the international level, Dr. Danish has co-chaired the Arab Business Forum for Information & Communications Technology (ABFICT) since 2001. He is on the Business Steering Committee of the Global Business Dialogue on Electronic Commerce (GBDe), where he played an active role as co-chair for the Europe/Africa region from 2004 to 2005.

Dr. Danish is the author and co-author of several European and American patents in the areas of telecommunications and information technology, and was awarded the “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite” in France in 2000.

Ahmed Abou Ali
AmCham Vice-President Legal Affairs and Partner,
Hassouna & Abou Ali Law Firm

Ahmed Abou Ali is the current vice president for legal affairs of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the American Society of International Law, the Egyptian Society of International Law, the Egyptian Capital Market Association (chairman of the Committee on Legislation and Profession) and the Egyptian Society for the Protection of Intellectual Property (board member and general secretary).

Dr. Abou Ali is a founding partner of Hassouna & Abou Ali Law Offices and an attorney before the Supreme Court of Egypt. He practiced law in the United States with the Chicago firm of Sidley & Austin before returning to Egypt to represent a number of multinational American and European companies. He has extensive experience with Egyptian banking, commercial, corporate, investment, privatization, project-finance and securities laws and regulations.

Dr. Abou Ali holds an LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School and a diploma in private law and an LL.B. from Cairo University.

Hala El Barkouky
AmCham Board Member and Managing Partner,
Allied Business Consultants

Hala El Barkouky, the founder and managing partner of Allied Business Consultants (ABC), is a business transformation management consultant. Since its inception in 1996, ABC has been contracted for the provision of privatization advisory services to the Government of Egypt. ABC’s scope of activities includes international business in the field of investment banking and business restructuring.

Ms. El Barkouky is a board member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. She has previously served as chair of AmCham’s Women in Business Committee and has held two committee co-chair positions since 2001. She is also a member of the Egyptian Capital Market Association and Egypt’s International Economic Forum, and was a speaker at the Women in Public Life Summit, Bermuda, on the subject of women and peace.

Before establishing ABC, Ms. El Ba rkouky was a member of the team managing Egypt’s privatization program. Prior to that, she gained 18 years of finance and banking experience in a number of prominent financial and banking institutions in Egypt.

Rodney J. Eichler
AmCham Member of the Board; Executive Vice President and General Manager ,
Apache Egypt Companies

Rodney Eichler, Apache Corporation executive vice president and general manager of the Egypt region, joined the company in 1993 as regional exploration manager for the Rocky Mountain region. In 1995, Mr. Eichler was named western region exploration manager before becoming western region vice president in 1996. He was transferred to Cairo in 1997 as vice president, exploration and development, Egypt and designated vice president and general manager of Apache Egypt Companies in 1999. In 2003, Mr. Eichler was promoted to corporate executive vice president and general manager, Egypt.

Prior to joining Apache, Mr. Eichler was associated with Axem Resources, Tenneco Oil Company and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Mr. Eichler received his Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s of Science in geological engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. He is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and is a Certified Petroleum Geologist and Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.

Apache Corporation is a large gas and oil independent with core operations in the United States, Canada, Egypt, Argentina, the British North Sea and western Australia. Apache has invested more than $4.2 billion in Egypt since 1996. It is the largest American investor in Egypt and the top producer of oil and gas in Egypt’s Western Desert. The company provides about 15 percent of the country’s daily oil and gas output.

Curt Ferguson
AmCham Member of the Board and North & West Africa Division President,
Coca-Cola Egypt - Atlantic Industries

Curtis Ferguson began his career with Coca-Cola USA in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1983. Since transferring to Asia in 1988, he has held a variety of management and bottler positions in subsidiaries of The Coca-Cola Companies in Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

In July 2000, he assumed the position of managing director of The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Egypt, responsible for the production and distribution of 11 modern factories employing 8,500 staff. In Egypt, Mr. Ferguson was an active member of the local community, serving as board chairman of the Community Services Association and the Cairo American College, a board member of the Bilateral Fulbright Commission and vice president of the AmCham board.

In 2002, Mr. Ferguson assumed the position of senior region manager for West Africa, based in Côte d’Ivoire, and in late 2003, became senior regional director for the Western Africa region, based in Morocco. He is a director of the North African Beverage Company, a joint venture for The Coca-Cola Company in the North African market. In January 2005, he was appointed division president of the North & West Africa Division, based in Cairo, Egypt. In 2007, he assumed the role of president of the North and West Africa Business Unit, responsible for the 27 countries of North and West Africa. He also serves on the World Wide Ethics and Compliance Committee for the Coca-Cola Company.

In 2006, Mr. Ferguson was appointed by the U.S. commerce secretary to be on the board of the U.S.-Egypt Business Council.

He holds a Bachelor’s of Science with majors in finance and management from Indiana University and is a graduate of the Executive Development Program at Stanford University and the Executive Management Program conducted by Wharton\Emory Universities.

Amr Kabil
Group Vice President,
National Stevedoring Group

Amr Kabil is group vice president and vice chairman of National Stevedoring Group, general manager and adviser to the chairman of the Travco Group of hotel companies, and chairman and CEO of Modern Egyptian Transport Co. (METCO). He is also an administrator for the Club d’Affaires Franco-Egyptien and a mechanical engineer for the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers.

Ehab El-Zorba

Ehab El-Zorba is vice president of operations at Nile Holding Company. Nile Holding is composed of a group of five subsidiary companies involved in textile exports employing around 12,000 people.

Girgis Sarwat Abd El Shahid

Gregory F. Huger
Managing Partner, Ayrlie Partner

Gregory Huger is managing partner and founder of Ayrlie Partners LLC, a consulting firm specialized in corporate social responsibility that focuses on sustainable supply chains, financial sector CSR, sustainable low-income communities and public-private partnerships.

Mr. Huger led Unocal’s five-year transformation to strategically proactive corporate citizenship to ensure global reputation and business continuity. His team enabled that company to maintain its presence in the challenging socio-political environments where it worked to develop oil and gas resources. He also spent one year with Bechtel in Iraq, managing the relationship between the company and Iraqi communities and subcontractors.

Mr. Huger was a minister counselor in the U.S. Foreign Service, serving with USAID and the Peace Corps for 23 years, mostly in field positions in the Middle East, where he served in Egypt for five years, the former Soviet Union, Central and South America, and Africa. He also held regional management positions for seven years with Deere & Company in South America and Europe.

Guy Bourn
Director Business Development Precision Products, ATK Washington Operations

Guy Bourn is ATK’s business development director for precision products. His portfolio includes precision-guided conventional munitions primarily for the US Army. He serves as ATK’s interface with customers in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Office of the Secretary of the Army and the Army staff as well as the Army’s major subordinate command headquarters.

General Bourn retired from the US Army in 2004 as a major general. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the field artillery after graduating from West Point in 1974. His last position in the Army was chief, Office of Military Cooperation in Cairo, Egypt. He retired from the Army to accept the position of vice president of the first private company to manage a seaport in Egypt. After three years with the Sokhna Port Development Company, he returned to the United States to join the ATK team.

General Bourn holds an undergraduate degree in general engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a Master’s degree in systems technology from the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, California.

Hani Cassis
General Manager,
Misr for Industry and Trade "Mintra"

Hani Cassis is a partner and general manager of MINTRA, a family manufacturing firm employing 1,500 people and exporting 85 percent of its production of stationery and office supplies to the United States and Europe. Mintra is a major supplier and manufacturer of ecofriendly notebooks, pads and fashion notebooks to Staples.

Mr. Cassis participated in the establishment of MINTRA in 1990, responsible for all the commercial, marketing and product innovation aspects, right after his graduation from the American College of Switzerland, where he majored in marketing.

In 2005, he obtained an MBA in international management, jointly granted by the University of Paris Dauphine and Paris I Pantheon- Sorbonne University. He is currently a member of GREGOR (Groupe de Recherche en Gestion des Organizations), University of Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne. While pursuing his Ph.D. studies in cognitive decision making at Paris I Sorbonne University, he has been teaching marketing courses for the executive MBA at Ain Shams University. More specifically, he teaches case studies and exercises in distribution, merchandising, sales techniques and communications.

He has been nominated to join the Yale University World Fellows Program in fall 2008.

Hassan Hassanin Hassaan
Chairman,
International Drug Agencies

Hassan Hassanin Hassaan worked as the area manager (Saudi Arabia) of Germany’s Heinrich Mack for 14 years, gaining extensive international experience in managing multinational pharmaceutical companies and a track record in business development.

Mr. Hassaan has established three pharmaceutical companies in Egypt: Sina Pharm, International Drug Agencies (IDA) and International Drug Industries (IDI). The three companies provide unique drug products for the local and international market.

He is also the head of Egypt’s scientific office for German pharmaceutical firm STADA.

Hisham A. Fahmy
Executive Director – AmCham Egypt

Hisham Fahmy has been the executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt since December 1999, and held the position of general manager from 1987 to 1993. He is also the founder and former chairman of the Egyptian Society of Association Executives (EgSAE), an association whose mission is to enhance the professional management of associations in Egypt. Mr. Fahmy previously served as acting director of the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies, a non-profit think tank that carries out and disseminates independent economic research. He worked on implementing programs that furthered the center’s mission, and oversaw the financing and administration that sustains them.

Mr. Fahmy developed quality systems and initiated business contacts between one of Egypt’s largest international corporations, International Group of Investment (IGI), and its clients and suppliers. He spent a decade acquiring firsthand private sector expertise in travel and tourism, and representing engineering, construction and electronics firms.

Mr. Fahmy graduated from the American University in Cairo in 1974 with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).

J. Michael Lacey

J. Michael Lacey is managing partner of the Cairo office of Denton Wilde Sapte. He is experienced in international construction projects, with a particular focus on privatizations. Prior to joining DWS in 2002, he worked on many major BOT projects and his experience includes road, port, hospital, airport, power, bridge and airport privatizations He also works with aviation, corporate, energy and environmental projects, including several major dispute adjudications for multinational clients in the areas of construction insurance, finance, warranties and procurement fraud. Prior to this, he worked for Skanska USA and Skanska Infrastructure Development (New York and Stockholm offices).

He holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in history and international relations from the University of San Diego, a Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University and a Master’s of European law from Stockholm University.

Loula Zaklama
President and Managing Director,
Radaresearch & Public Relations Co.

Loula Zaklama, elected world president of the International Public Relations Association for 2006, is a public relations and marketing expert with 40 years of experience in advertising, marketing, data analysis and public awareness campaigning.

In 1982, she founded RadaResearch & Public Relations Co., a private marketing research and public relations firm in Egypt. Ms. Zaklama joined AmCham Egypt in 1985, and served several times as a member of the board of governors. She is also a member of the board of Gallup International and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).

Ms. Zaklama received the Atlas Award International Lifetime Achievement from the Public Relations Society of America in October 2007 and the Medal of Merit from the International Advertising Association, Chicago, in 1986 – a medal given every two years for outstanding contributions to the advertising industry. She is one of 10 individuals to have been selected from around the world for this distinguished award. She received a certificate of excellence from the International Public Relations Association in 1993, and was selected as one of the 50 leading women entrepreneurs of the world by the Star Group, sponsored by IBM and Fortune magazine, in May 1998.

She was also selected as one of the 50 Arab leading businesswomen in the Middle East 2006 by Forbes magazine. She received the AmCham “Special Achievement Award” in 2004.

M. Gamal Moharam
CEO & Managing Director,
Piraeus Bank

Mohamed Gamal Moharam is the chairman and CEO of Piraeus Bank Egypt. He joined the bank, formerly named Egyptian Commercial Bank, in March 2002.

Mr. Moharam acted as chief representative with The Bank of New York from 1985 to 2002 and worked with Fleet National Bank from 1981 to 1985 and Citibank from 1979 to 1981.

He has been an active member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt since 1984 and served several terms on the board of governors. He was previously AmCham executive vice president and is currently chair of the Banking, Finance & Insurance Committee.

Mohamed Abdallah

Coldwell Banker Affiliates of Middle East & Greater Africa

Mohamed Abdallah is the president/CEO of Coldwell Banker Middle East and chair of AmCham Egypt’s Real Estate Committee.

Mr. Abdallah started his professional career as a trader on the Egyptian stock exchange. In 1996, he held the position of vice president, trading at EFG-Hermes, one of the biggest financial groups in Egypt.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the American University in Cairo, which he gained in 1994, and completed various pre-graduate courses from different international universities.

Mohamed Abou Youssef
President,
Abou Youssef Architectural & Contracting Office

Mohamed Abou Youssef is the chairman of the Abou Youssef Group, a group that he founded in 1970. It started as the Abou Youssef office specializing in contracting, construction chemicals, diesel engines and swimming pools. Later, the group grew to include Sinai Touristic Investments Company, which built, owns and manages three resorts on the shores of Sharm Al Sheikh. The hotels are four- and five-star establishments with a total capacity of 1,000 rooms.

He is president of the environmental committee of the South Sinai Investors Association and chairman of Sharm El Sheikh Ecological Service company, responsible for environmental sustainability through clean-up initiatives and solid-waste management.

Mr. Abou Youssef was decorated with the high merit of the commendatory title from the Italian government in 2007. The award was given for his contributions to enhancing economic relations between the two countries, for his work to sustain the environment in South Sinai and for his continuous support for less privileged communities.

Mohamed E. Taymour
Chairman,
Pharos Holding for Financial Investments

Mohamed Taymour is chairman of Pharos Capital, a family private equity firm, and the founder and former chairman of EFG-Hermes, the region’s largest investment bank, covering a range of activities that include brokerage, asset management and advisory activities.

Dr. Taymour has worked as a consultant – for both the Egyptian government and private institutions – on a variety of assignments related to capital markets. He has held senior positions in investment banking and development banking institutions in Egypt, the United States and Kuwait.

Dr. Taymour has been a prominent member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt since 1988, serving as chair of the Investment Committee from 1991 to 1997 and chair of the Stock Exchange Committee from 1998 to 2002. In 2003, and again in 2005, he was elected as a member of the AmCham board of governors.

He is currently the chairman of the Egyptian Capital Market Association, a board member of the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies and a member of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs. Dr. Taymour holds a doctorate from Dartmouth College in the United States and a Bachelor’s of Science in industrial engineering from Cairo University.

Mohamed Taha Mostafa
"First Vice President - Treasury Group Head",
Arab Banking Corporation - Egypt (ABC Bank)

Mohamed Taha Mostafa is treasurer, first vice president for Arab Banking Corporation.

He began his career with Mosafco International Co., where he worked for four years as a petroleum service manager before moving to Islamic International Bank for Investment & Development, where he was assistant chief dealer for five years. In 1978, he joined Egyptian American Bank as assistant chief dealer, later to be appointed chief dealer in 1988, deputy manager in 1989, first deputy manager in 1989, manager in 1990, senior manager in 1991, assistant general manager in 1992, deputy general manager in 1993, general manager in 1996 and executive vice president and head of treasury in 2000.

He graduated from the American University in Cairo in 1978 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in economics.

Nawal Naguib Kelada
Management Consultant,
Middle East Courier Services

Nawal Kelada is a founder and partner of Middle East Courier Services Co. Egypt, established in 1977, where she continues as a management consultant, and also freelances for the UNDP as a management consultant and quality management trainer.

Ms. Kelada has been with UNDP Cairo since 1963, during which time she has been involved in methodological administration, management, human resources development and training, as well as information and communication management and policy-making. She has undertaken many missions to other UNDP offices, establishing UNDP global administrative management systems, policies and procedures, human resources development training and capacity building. She has also conducted quality management training workshops in UNDP offices in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Egypt, Rwanda and Kenya.

Ms. Kelada is a board member of the Rotary Club of Cairo Cosmopolitan, a founding member of Egypt’s Chapter of the Association for International Civil Servants (AFICS), and a founding member and board member of Media Arts for Development (MADEV). She is on the President’s List of the American University in Cairo (AUC) and is involved with the AUC John Gerhard Center for Philanthropy & Civil Service.

Rami Zaki
Associate Director, External Relations,
Procter & Gamble Egypt, Ltd.

Ramy Zaki took up his duties as associate director, external relations, Procter & Gamble Near East in 2005, with a scope of responsibility covering the company’s business in Egypt, Levant and Northeast African markets. He was previously the external relations manager for Procter & Gamble Egypt.

Between 1994 and 1998, Mr. Zaki was a diplomat with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving in a variety of assignments including the Palestine desk, consular affairs and the ministry’s databank. Prior to that, he worked for Bechtel Egypt SAE as a business development assistant manager. He took his first career step in 1992 as an engineer with the General Dynamics Company.

Mr. Zaki holds a Bachelor’s of Science in engineering from Cairo University and an M.Sc. environmental science, legislation and management from Brunel University, UK. In 1994, he attended the Cairo Diplomatic Institute and the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University. He also took part in the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Executive Program on the practice of trade in 2004.

Mr. Zaki is a co-founder and member of the board of Khadra Association for the Conservation & Development of the Environment, an NGO working for environmental and social improvement in Egypt. He is a member of the LIONS Clubs of France, the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers, the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, the Federation of Egyptian Industries, the Association for Graduates & Trainees from Britain in Egypt, the Alumni Association of the Jesuit School in Cairo and the International Life Science Institute.

Soheir Kotb Farahat
President,
Ingyco Agencies

Soheir Farahat is president of Ingyco Agencies, a private marketing company established in 1984 covering the fields of electronics, communications, maritime transport and services, textiles and wastewater disposal. When the privatization scheme of the Egyptian government was started, Ingyco Agencies marketed projects in the above fields, with a focus on the field of maritime transport and dredging projects. After receiving a Bachelor’s of Arts in social sciences from the American University in Cairo, Ms. Farahat worked at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in Cairo for three years, after which she was transferred to the UN World Health Organization Regional Office in Alexandria as an administrative officer, where she remained until she started her private business, Ingyco Agencies, in 1984.

Ms. Farahat joined the American Chamber of Commerce in 1995.

Tarek M. Elrefai
Managing Director,
The Bank of New York Mellon- Representative Office

Tarek Elrefai is managing director of The Bank of New York Mellon’s Cairo Representative Office, where he is responsible for developing business relationships with financial institutions and promoting the bank’s range of payments and cash management products, trade, custody, security lending and GDR/ADR. He is also country manager for Egypt, Jordan, the West Bank, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya and Yemen.

Mr. Elrefai started his career in 1982 as a foreign exchange dealer at Alexandria Kuwait International Bank. In 1986, he joined Irving Trust covering the Egyptian market. The Bank of New York took over Irving Trust in a hostile takeover in 1990 and Mr. Elrefai remained with The Bank of New York.

Mr. Elrefai graduated from Cairo University’s Faculty of Commerce in 1980.
